They are the Muslim Brotherhood, the religious conservatives, often secretive and poorly understood. It is clear: they want an Islamic state in Egypt. This week they came out of the shadows and joined the protesters demand that Mubarak step down.
"For a long time, we expressed our rejection of these criminal policies that have destroyed all aspects of life in Egypt and all those who have tried to express their views," deputy director of the Muslim Brotherhood, said Dr. Rashad Albayomi .
The Fraternity was founded in 1928, is the oldest moving and most influential in the Islamic world and the sworn enemy of Hosni Mubarak.
Illegal but tolerated in Egypt - at one point - its members are often harassed and arrested by state police of President Mubarak.
As a fraternity social charity has won many Egyptians, and in 2005 surprised Mubarak won 88 seats, about one fifth of the Egyptian Parliament. But last year, who boycotted and lost all the seats Mubarak rigged election.
The Brotherhood rejects violence, with few exceptions, and that groups like Hamas and Al Qaeda were reported.
But again, some critics worry about the potential of the group for political purposes is a gateway to Islamic extremism.
Fiercely pro-Palestinian few hardcore members want Israel wiped off the map, while others take a more moderate tone.
